New SDS/2 Connect Release Includes Link to Fastrak

The 2011.2 and 2012.2 versions of SDS/2 Connect have been released and are now available for download.

The updated version includes the ability to import end reactions via a CXL file created with CSC's Fastrack Building Designer. This will save users a significant amount of time inputting end reactions for each structural element, and allow more accurately designed connections based on design loads.

Other highlights:

  • Support of double channel sections
  • Connection design for HSS Structure Round and Pipe families as Round Pipe
  • Ability to modify the family library from which Revit Structure inserts sections into projects
  • Joists using sections that SDS/2 Connect recognizes, such as wide flanges, will now be designed as beams
  • The AS4100 (Australian) design code has been added
  • Additional setup screens allowing more control over a project

The new release is available only to those who have already purchased SDS/2 Connect or for new 30-day trial downloads.

Design Data Partnership With Steel Projects Leads to Extended CNC Functionality in SDS/2

Design Data has announced it has formed a partnership with Steel Projects — a subsidiary of Ficep Corporation — to further streamline the BIM workflow. The partnership allows information to be expedited from the detailing office down to manufacturing, shipping and erection, increasing the efficiency of the entire work process.

The XML link between the companies' software builds on existing Design Data technology, which has been expanded to include information about sequences, job data and custom properties.

To use the XML download in SDS/2, select the members you wish to download (up to the entire job) in Modeling, then select Model > Member > XML CNC Download. Select a destination directory and a file name (which should have a .xml extension). The resulting XML file can then be imported into Steel Projects for use in production optimization, stock management and purchasing, nesting of pieces, automation of CNC process and shipping, and other project management tasks.

This XML download will be available beginning in SDS/2 v7.244.
